welcome to the 2020-21 sabre family orientation presentation I'm about to share with you is an overview of State distance learning program for the upcoming School begin school starts this Monday August 3rd 2020 at 8 a.m. so please be sure to have your Chromebooks out have your internet it is Monday August 3rd will be going live so you want to be logging in to your teachers Zoom classes I'll go over how to do that you slides we think about the 2020-21 school year I want us to think about three themes let's always be safe, tis a risk to everyone and we need to all take appropriate safety precautions at all times to ensure that we're all safe always engaged it's really important that students stay engaged with their learning even though we're not in the building we've developed a program that will encourage and hopefully facilitate all of you staying engaged while we cannot have school inside our building finally always learning even though we're call me to start the school year we still have dreams aspirations and goals I want to see every single save us color go to college I want to see them reach their career to do that we need to be working even right now while we're learning at home Sable will begin the school year with distance learning for all students that means no students will be learning from inside school building distance learning the basics I want to go over three Basics to our distance learning program just like last year a Google survey will go out to students email boxes in the morning at 7:30 students need to be our present and ready to learn by 8 a.m. office will follow up with students who have not clicked the survey beginning later in the morning and they will continue calling until we ensure that everyone is safe be sure to click that serving at your present and ready to learn the second part of our DL Basics is Schoology class check-ins School is our learning management system and for each class you have you're going to click simple but saying that you are present and have access to the content for the day's lesson I'll go over more details in subsequent slides basic is live Zoom classes this year we're going to have many more classes when you have a when a student has a gym class it's important that they attend classes are not optional what you see in front of you is the high school schedule please know our bell schedule has changed when we compare it to previous years at ciba the startup we will have six. On Monday each one of those. Is 37 minutes with a 3 minute passing. Between that way you will see all of your classes on Monday typical Mondays will be non live classes that means you enter schoology and see assignments posted from your teacher maybe a screencastify like the one watching right now but this coming Monday we will have live classes so it's really important to remember that this Monday you are online at 8 a.m. to meet new teachers moving forward we see that Tuesday isn't a day and there are live classes for all students on Tuesdays on Tuesdays there's three 77 minute periods with three minute passing periods during a single 77 minute. Teachers will have zoom sessions scheduled throughout students will need to check their schoology page to find out which Zoom session they will attend within that. Your teachers will have more detailed instructions on their school GPA it's important to know that all students should expect to participate in live Zoom sessions on Tuesdays Wednesdays are another a day Tuesday and Wednesday are a day so we see periods 1 2 and 3 on Tuesday and then again. 1 2 and 3 on Wednesday Wednesdays will have asynchronous instruction meaning that there might be a screencastify similar to this or an assignment posted within schoology teachers will still be live on zoom and this is an opportunity for students to receive support sometimes your teachers will reach out to you saying please come to my lives in session during your class. Other times you might get stuck on a particular assignment if you find yourself struggling this is the opportune time to reach out to your teachers please attend these live sessions on Wednesday for support we going to Thursday Thursday and Friday are a repeat of Tuesday and Wednesday except with classes meaning. 4 5 and 6 Thursdays will be wide Zoom sessions for all students within any particular. Your teachers will have zoom sessions posted to their schoology page and student should check to determine when they need to be online with their teacher it is similar to Wednesday it's an intervention support. There will be an asynchronous assignment posted on schoology student needs to pour or help on those assignments they should check in with their teacher during the Friday Zoom sessions the Middle School staff is virtually the same we have all six periods on Monday I'm a typical Monday the zoom there are no Zoom sessions is a synchronous meeting the posted directly within Schoology this coming Monday the classes are life please don't forget this coming Monday August 3rd live classes for all beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday Tuesday isn't a day eating we have. 1 2 and 3 and on Tuesdays there are live Zoom sessions for all students within each. Your teacher will indicate what time their Zoom session is the zoom sessions can be found on a teacher's schoology landing page it's important to note that on Tuesday grade 7 and 8 will have physical education from 12 to 1 p.m. you can see a note on this schedule with the color so grade 7 and 8 have PE from 12 to 1 on Tuesday and then again on Wednesday on Wednesday we have periods 1 2 and 3 in this is a intervention support a beating student teachers will have their assignments posted on schoology and students can go into schoology to see their assignments and if they're in struggling or need help or if the teacher asked them to attend really important that students attend those Impressions on Wednesday to get the support that they meet Thursday and Friday are repeat of Monday Tuesday and Wednesday except that there be a tough classes or. For 5 + 6 on Thursday it's a live Zoom session for all students that means that within periods for five and six teachers sessions posted on there school G landing page students need to login to schoology to determine what time they need to attend does the zoom sessions noon grade 6 has physical education your PE teachers will have more detailed instructions in school intervention support a meaning assignments posted on schoology and also be available for intervention and support students can go into a teacher's lives session to get help on any particular assignment just like on Wednesday teachers will likely assign students to attend D sessions if you know that your student is struggling it's important that you reach out to the teachers of the day and also provide instruction for your student they are struggling and then at the end of the day Friday we have a PE session from 12 to 1 p.m. for 6th grade students okay attendance everyday by 8 a.m. students will receive an email in the morning with a daily attendance form that looks just like the page that's on this screen as you can see it says are you ready to learn today August 3rd and students need to click yes I'm here and then click submit if students do not click disturbing our office team will be following up with those fat ways to find out what happened please click this Google survey Everyday by 8 a.m. four. Attendance students will need to take click a button that looks similar to the page that you see on the screen so for example in a particular schoology class you will say are you ready to learn in my class today students will need to click yes getting a simple attendance assignment shows that you're able to access the days materials this is the next step and making sure students know where to go and what to do please know that you will have assignment for attendance for one of your class treats that means that on Mondays you'll have six of these at the time shown on the screen 880-4920 10 + 40 + 1120 + Tuesdays through Fridays at eight 9:40 and 10:20 what's your plan for the week's work and what they need to do to prepare for each live sessions with the teacher on Tuesday you can see an example of what a page might look like on this screen on Tuesdays and Thursdays there will be live meetings students will login to schoology quick on their individual Zoom session and make sure to attend again I want to be clear within each. The teachers will indicate what time their lives Zoom session starts on Wednesdays and Fridays daily assignments will show exactly what students need to do to be successful as you can see on the screen here's an example of what one assignment could look like this is also an opportunity for support from teachers teachers one bite students as needed so be sure to check your email can your schoology messages to know whether you need to be attending interventions on Wednesdays and or Fridays students can also check in with their teachers if they have questions if you get stuck on assignment I recommend you write your teacher you send an email send a message through schoology saying that you're struggling and I am confident your teachers make space for you on either way day or Friday social emotional learning and character development are super important today especially in the world we find ourselves in strong to provide them in a social emotional and character development Curriculum lesson and study skills class in high school physical education or PE in middle school about the topics you see on your screen it's very important to students tune and lie to learn about the topics discussed in our character strong curriculum lunch program lunches will begin on Monday August 3rd after discussion at Sibley Town Hall meetings we've made the decision to provide days of meals between 9:30 and noon on Monday August 3rd please note that we will have both breakfast and lunch is available we will work with families as the year progresses to find a time slot that is ideal for families but for Monday August 3rd lunches and breakfasts will be available between 9:30 well yeah okay now I'm going to go through some basic questions how can my student receive support your student has a variety of ways to Steam support first let's talk about their teachers each student has six teachers their teachers are available every Wednesday and for intervention this is a time when students can go in and get help with the assignments that they see on Schoology teachers will reach out to your seat student frequently but students shouldn't need to weigh I either feel like they're getting stuck students can also be proactive and have been reach out to their teachers next up we have directed studies these are class specifically designed for select students directed studies teachers will call All Families before August 3rd to let you know when their scheduled time will be directions studies will be five classes Fifth Third support we have four students are at grade level academic coordinators reliable academic coordinators will reach out to struggling students also be calling all students before August 3rd to develop a relationship with them next we have peer tutors these our fellow Ceiba students and they'll be assigned through the academic grade level coordinators to support students who might find themselves struggling finally in high school we have a study skills class this is a space where students can read support from their teacher and their peers next question this is something new what is a grade level academic coordinator grade level academic Gators bar Ceiba staff members they support struggling students they communicate regularly with families that means weekly they Coordinated Care tutoring support can they help students with their classes the bond between a grade level academic coordinator and a stew is extremely important make sure that you develop that vine between your student and the grade-level academic coordinator what are student responsibilities to begin school year first all students need to sign in Daily off the Google survey that I'll be sent out to email in the morning and individual assignments posted on Schoology second students need to attend all synchronous class has a secret as class is a live class on Zoom these are not optional students need to attend if they've been sign alive synchronous class tourism 3 complete your assignments the assignments that your teachers will give to you are also not optional it's really important that students continue to learn even though we're not in the building or ask for help this is a skill that takes a lot of practice sometimes it's really humbling to acknowledge that you need help but the sooner you can develop skill the more successful you will be so parents please work with your students to encourage them to ask for help from their teachers follow our acceptable use pause this policy can be summed up in a couple of points for your polite in your communication with others especially on Zoom and finally act respectfully towards your peers and your teachers what are parents family responsibilities the parrot family responsibilities include the following to help your student ensure that they're signing in Daily and completing their assignments daily so ask them did you sign in today did you complete your assignment today student communication is extremely important to ensure your students attend synchronous synchronous means live classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays this is a great time to learn more in a different format also bisect to miss that we all need especially now check schoology rarely grants will be posted on schoology and schoology is a great way to find out our students doing in our classes for check in with your child everyone is going through a certain amount of emotional trauma right now some basic questions that you 1 * how are they doing with school how was your emotional or psychological state and how are you doing with staying safe these are some basic questions that can lead to more in-depth discussion between a student and their family need help reach out to us a savior is here for you what do I do if my Chromebook doesn't work we have Chromebooks support So if you find yourself in need of support please either send an email to Carlos. Garcia at state as you can see on the screen schedule a time to drop off your call back at school between 8 and 11 a.m. Monday through Friday for Garcia will exchange your broken Chromebook for a quote loaner Chromebook but those supplies are limited so communication is key the Chromebook was your only way to access the internet go ahead and call the office the phone number for the offices 317-408-8008 with your Chromebook all right what is Schoology I mention schoology a number of times during this temptation schoology is a website where teachers post assignments and grades teachers update this site at least once per week students and parents should check schoology regularly Tennessee can parents can communicate directly with their teachers and administrators including me directly through Schoology import no schoology will also provide access to the zoom live classes to enter schoology first and then you'll be able to see where you can log on for your zoo classes how to say but communicate with students in families David communicate with families through text messages with an agenda of a c add the past three Saturdays text messages will be sent out with the short amount of text in a PDF link below we also communicate through office phone call so we might reach out to you by phone with you we communicate through schoology so be sure to check in about Schoology we communicate through a Friday newsletter I want a posterior from cheers Sabra has provided a monthly newsletter updates for the upcoming month of school this year we're going to change the we're going to send out weekly newsletters these newsletters will go out and teachers can will write in the newsletter what they're going to do for the upcoming week of school parents can review this lighter and talk it over with their students to know whether they're progressing as appropriate or not on this week's assignments you're also will be updates about the school in general on these newsletters Saturday parent meetings we've had three Saturday parent meetings in a row will have another one this coming Saturday at 9 in English and 10 clock in Spanish Saturday parent meetings throughout the school year likely wants time per month unless we need more how can we prepare for the first day of school the first day of school is important guide family turn in their registration paperwork they also need to pick up their school supplies hopefully you've done both of those things buy today make sure your Chromebook is working dog and turn it on cuz you'll need that beginning Monday August 3rd finally adjust your sleeping pattern start to go to bed earlier so you can be up and ready to go by 8 Kemper School after watching this video you may still have a few questions I anticipated that and so we're going to have a Q&A or question and answer session twice the first one will be on Thursday July 30th at 5 p.m. in English and 5:30 p.m. in Spanish and then we will have another session on Sat play August 1st at 9 a.m. in English and 10 a.m. in Spanish do not need to attend both if you feel like you understood everything you do not need to attend either one this snooze for families to ask me questions about the upcoming school year so you can start the year feeling confident that you know what to do if you have questions or concerns please attend the sessions I'm also Buy email and phone if you have a question that you'd like me to answer ahead of these sessions this concludes our orientation for the 2020-21 school year and I look forward to seeing you either tomorrow night Thursday July 30th or Saturday morning August 1st have a good evening
