Larry Vilaubi
Board Member
Larry Vilaubi joined the Ceiba Public Schools Board in July, 2020. Now retired, Larry spent 43 years as an educator in the Bay Area as a teacher and administrator in comprehensive high schools and charter schools. Additionally, he trained and mentored future principals for the Stanford Graduate School of Education. He brings a wealth of experience to the Ceiba community. Born and raised in East Los Angeles to immigrant parents, he spoke only Spanish when he started school and has a deep affinity for students from similar backgrounds. This served him well as principal of two charter schools, one in East San Jose and the other in East Palo Alto, both of which are very similar to Ceiba in their mission and communities.

Josh Ripp
Head of School
Josh Ripp joined Ceiba College Prep in 2016 as Principal and became Head of School in July 2020.
Prior to joining Ceiba, Mr. Ripp taught and led in International Baccalaureate schools in both Peru and New Mexico. He is continually inspired by students who demonstrate resilience and determination to achieve their goals.
Mr. Ripp earned his undergraduate degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, his Juris Doctor (J.D.) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Denver, and his Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Eastern New Mexico University.

Dr. Roberto Portillo
Board Member
Dr. Portillo is a first-generation Latino whose parents risked everything to flee a civil war and create a better life for their family. Forever grateful for the opportunities they gave him, he is now in a position to pay that debt forward. Higher education opened doors for him that he will always cherish, and he is deeply committed to supporting the Ceiba College Prep community, which values the same opportunities he received in his youth.

Michael Jones
Board Chair
Michael retired after many years of service as Principal of Alianza Charter School. Together with his colleague Judy Stobbe, he led the successful conversion of Alianza from a magnet school to a charter school in order to preserve its distinctive Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program, which remains the cornerstone of the school’s instructional model.
He is deeply committed to advancing excellent educational opportunities for families throughout the Pájaro Valley.
Michael earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his Master of Arts in Educational Administration from the University of San Francisco. He is an active member of the Watsonville Rotary Club.
